If I could go back in time to my teenage years, I would have shared this Maya Angelou quote with 15 year old me. I believe this knowledge may have helped me navigate the feelings of inadequacy from hearing adults share their unwanted opinions of my personal existence, with no intention of speaking life into me. Had I believed I was enough, maybe I wouldn’t have needed validation from sexual partners, to feel wanted and beautiful. Had I known I was enough, perhaps I would have recognized my gifts and strengths and talents and created a future on my own terms, not based on family or societal expectations. Maybe being compared to other, more “successful” peers by people who “meant well” would have rolled off my back had I known that I was enough…unique…qualified to be ME.
If you don’t already KNOW that you are enough as you are, I am here to encourage you. Your bank account, lifestyle choices, looks or style, awards or lack thereof, challenges, successes…all of that is extra. YOU being authentic, is enough. Embrace yourself. You have everything you need to grow in grace, love and abundance. The journey never ends, so soak it all in and love the shadows as much as the light.
You alone are Enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.Maya Angelou
